Problems

Data shows that nearly 40% of new users leave without using the AI features at all.

The app is a Super App, and we want to focus on promoting its AI features.

Understanding User Pain Points

Survey

Given the large user base, we want to first grasp the basic characteristics and traits of our users.

The ages range from under 18 to over 60, with no single age group exceeding 20%.

Key Insights

For first-time users:

The main reasons for not interacting: "I don’t know what to ask" and "I don’t have anything to ask."

Define

Use Fogg’s Behavior Model to define the design direction

For first-time users, although it's easy to interact, there's a lack of "motivation." In other words, they don't know what to ask.

The First Screen Fails to Properly Guide Users

The First Screen Fails to Properly Guide Users

We Noticed That When Users Arrive at the First Screen of the Product, They Feel Confused

1

Lack of clear guidance

Users are unsure of what to do after entering the app, as there is no clear navigation or guidance.

2

Prompt "What Do You Want to Ask the AI?"

Users feel they don't have a question to ask.

3

Confusion About Referrals

Users are asked to recommend the product to friends before they have used it.

4

Too many distracting elements

Other elements in the interface (such as ads or recommendations) might distract users, affecting the overall experience.

Ideation

Decision-Making

The goal is to enable users to interact with the product immediately, so simplicity and directness are key.

Final Design

1

Why Use Direct Submission Instead of a Prompt Input Field?

Objective:

  • To enable users to interact with the product immediately. Adding an extra step (like entering an input field) could create additional friction and reduce the likelihood of user engagement.

Reasoning:

  • Reducing the number of steps in the interaction process helps in improving conversion rates and providing a more streamlined experience.

2

Why Not Have More Prompts?

  • Miller's Law:

    • According to Miller's Law, the average number of items a person can hold in working memory is 7±2. With advancements in technology, this number is trending lower, so limiting the number of prompts to 5 helps ensure that users can easily process and remember the options presented.

  • User Experience:

    • A manageable number of prompts reduces cognitive load and ensures that users are not overwhelmed, making it easier for them to make a choice.

  • Device Size and Multilingual Considerations:

    • Data shows that most users' devices have a screen size of 390x844px. Displaying five prompts fits well within this size, ensuring that all prompts are visible at a glance across different languages (Chinese, English, Japanese) without requiring users to scroll or miss information.

Why These Five Initial Types of Questions?

  • Human Desires and Emotions:

    • The selected question types address fundamental human interests and needs. By focusing on universal themes, the prompts cater to a wide range of users regardless of age or occupation.

  • Engagement:

    • By choosing questions that are broadly appealing, the design ensures that users from different demographics will find something relevant to their interests.

Use the simplest and most understandable wording for users.

  • Display Question: This is what users will see in the UI. It should be concise and engaging to encourage users to click.

  • Actual Question: This is the prompt that is sent to the AI when the user clicks on the Display Question. It should be tested thoroughly with the AI to ensure high-quality responses, avoiding poorly worded prompts that may result in unsatisfactory answers.

Establish Design System: Dark Mode Adjustments

Insufficient contrast makes text difficult to read in dark mode.

Review all dark mode colors and create a design system.
